Who We Are

Gamma Delta History

Dean Rudolph H. Raabe founded the Gamma Delta Chapter of Kappa Psi on March 20, 1920. Gamma Delta chapter was installed by the Beta Beta chapter of Western Reserve. Brother Charles A. Snyder was responsible with demonstrating the Ritual of Initiation to the 30 charter members on March 20, 1920. Gamma Delta purchased their first house in 1921. Forty years later in 1961, renovations were completed in the new house at 600 South Simon Street. In 1970, Gamma Delta celebrated its Golden Anniversary. Gamma Delta was reactivated on March 20th, 2010 on the 90th anniversary of the founding on Ohio Northern University’s campus.

National History

Kappa Psi was founded on May 30th, 1879 in New Haven, Connecticut at the Russel Military Academy. Currently there are 178 chapters (105 collegiate and 73 graduate chapters), six thousand collegiate members, and over eighty-thousand graduate members across the United States, Canada, and the Bahamas. Kappa Psi has grown in both size and quality. Any student enrolled in a College of Pharmacy who meets the local chapter requirements, is not a member of another pharmaceutical fraternity and is in good standing with the university is eligible for membership. Members are selected on the basis of their personal qualifications. Kappa Psi offers the opportunity for high scholastic achievement, the opportunity to develop qualities of leadership, and growth and development as a professional.

Ohio Northern University is home to the Gamma Delta chapter of Kappa Psi, the nations oldest and largest pharmaceutical fraternity. It represents a unique co-ed fraternity that combines the sacredness of brotherhood with the prestigious career of pharmacy. Our chapter consists of students ranging from P1-P6 year and keeps in contact with alumni from across the nation. Why Kappa Psi?

    The Pillars

Our four pillars: Fellowship, Industry, Sobriety, and High Ideals. These pillars are integral to the beliefs of Kappa Psi and the Brothers incorporate them in every aspect of their lives to become good citizens as well as outstanding pharmacists. Kappa Psi offers networking, service, outreach, philanthropic and social opportunities. These opportunities provide Brothers the chance to make life-long friends while furthering their academic careers. Kappa Psi is more than just an organization. It is a tight-knit brotherhood filled with people eager to further their career and enrich their lives. Brothers of Kappa Psi are Brothers for more than 6 years, they are Brothers for life.

Our new international philanthropy project is Reach out and Read In efforts to create a long-term, impactful and meaningful path forward for the Fraternity through fundraising and direct service activities. This organization is an evidence-based national non-profit organization of medical providers who promote early literacy. It is represented in every US state, DC, US Virgin Islands, and Armed Forces bases in the Pacific and Europe. In addition, opportunities will arise to start new programs in any city or country that our Chapters exist. The program establishes pediatric primary care clinics, hospitals, and health centers in over 5,800 current programs for 0-5yr olds and 4 million children and families, about $100 for the full 5 year program. Our annual international goal is of $50,000 a year in donations and hours to make us a 'Literacy Partner.'” -Robert Mancini, our Grand Regent

All of the Kappa Psi chapters in our province participate in this philanthropy and compete to win the "Vice Satraps Philanthropy Challenge". The winner of the challenge is announced at the Fall and Spring Province Assembly. In the Fall of 2024, Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity organized a bracket-style fundraiser as part of their philanthropic initiatives. In this competition, provinces advanced weekly based on a point system that considered both the number of books and the total dollars donated during each week.

As a chapter there are several activities throughout the year that we participate in to raise awareness about Nutrition. As a brotherhood, we volunteer at Restore and serve meals to members of the community. On the second Sunday of months while on campus, we donate our time to serve breakfast to the under-served in Lima at the Trinity United Methodist Church. Every spring we host a Nutrition Awareness week. This includes hosting a canned food drive to donate to the Ada Food Pantry, giving out nutritious treats and offering nutrition facts to students, participating in Zumba as a chapter, and hosting Nutrition Bingo. We sometimes change our events to find other ways to reach out to the community and campus. Gamma Delta is very passionate about our philanthropy and each year we hold more events to support it.
